WHO INFLUENCED YOU MOST IN YOUR LIFE?
Mother Teresa is one of the greatest influences in my life. As you know, she received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. While she was in India teaching in a High School, she was sad to see the poverty of people who lived in the nearby slums. So, she decided to help them. She didn't have any money, but she left the school and started working with the poor. I think she had incredible strength to move away from the comfort of the school and live and work with some of the poorest people in India. So, I truly admire her. Sally, India My grandmother is one of the biggest influences for me. She lived through one war, having to bring up her children at the same time, at times finding it difficult to find food and money. She spent many years looking after her two daughters alone. Because her husband, my grandfather died in the war. Life was hard for her, but she was strong-minded. One thing I remember about my grandmother is that she was always singing and we would often sing along with her. Katrina, America One of my biggest influences in life is Bruce Lee. He is the Chinese-American martial artist(武术家)and actor who is widely regarded among the most influential martial artists of the 20th century. Lee's new movies brought attention to the martial arts. The Hong Kong martial arts film industry became famous and many films, featuring the martial arts, have been made since then. He has always been an inspiration to many kung fu stars, such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, to name a few. He died at the age of 32, but what a 32 years he lived! In such a short time he managed to revolutionize (彻底改变)film, philosophy, music, the arts and physical fitness. Manuel, Hong Kong 31. Who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979? A. Mother Teresa C. Bruce Lee
B. Katrina's grandma D. Jackie Chan

Many people think of bullying(欺凌)as one child pushing or hitting another. Bullying is not only physical. When I was a thirteen-year-old girl in junior high school, the girls in my class would mock me or ask questions to embarrass me. Once a girl looked at me and announced loudly, “I don't want to sit next to her!, ^ Their words didn't hurt me physically, but they did make me feel terrible.
Bullying is a widespread problem in schools, but you can take actions to stop it. ____▲______
You may not think of yourself as a bully, but do you make jokes at others' expense? If the other person isn't laughing, your words or actions may hurt more than you think.
Many bullies were once victims(受害者)of bullying or faced other difficult experiences and now bully others to feel powerful. If that's you, don't respond by hurting others, but overcome your pain by treating others well. Being kind will make you truly powerful.
Speak up
If you notice one person bullying another, please tell them to stop. Many bullies are motivated by a desire to look cool, so if you tell them you're not impressed, they511 stop. If they
D. Technology
don't, walk away and tell an adult about it.
Stand tall
If you're being bullied, don't try to face it alone, but ask a parent or other trusted adults for help. Similarly, in places where bullying happens, stay close to a friend since bullies often target people who are alone.
When you're being bullied, walk away calmly. Leaving will keep you safe, and if you don't seem frightened or upset, the bully may lose interest in you.
Finally, remember that what is happening is not your fault. The nasty things bullies say reflect who they are, not who you are. You are valuable for who you are, and nothing anyone says or does can change that.

My mother was a giver. The occasion never mattered 一 weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, Groundhog Day, Arbor Day or no occasion at all.
D. Michael
She was always thinking about who might enjoy what. She always wrapped (包装)her gifts with care. Thoughtfulness and creativity went into the gifts she gave. And she appreciated a thank -you note. Once she sent out a note to family members who had not told her that they received gifts. My mother said that they were now on her \"Fecal Roster(黑名单)\" and would not be deleted until she had received a proper thank-you.
Even if you didn't send a thank-you, she'd give you another gift the next chance she had. She thought bad manners were your problem, not hers.
The funny thing is, she didn't come from a gift-giving background. She grew up during the Depression (大萧条时期)and my grandparents couldn't afford any gifts for her. She said she used to be afraid of going back to school after Christmas because the teacher would always have them write about what they got for Christmas. Never one for self-pity, my mother made up some fine stories.
She taught us to give, too. She told us not to be cheap or cut comers.
My mother wasn't a sentimental (多愁善感的)person, but one spring when they came to visit, she handed me a gift bag full of tissue paper. Inside was an etching (蚀刻版画)on glass that read: \"A Special Daughter. So many of the good times we remember from the past happened because of you. You've brought laughter and joy to our lives and so much love to our hearts. The most valuable things we can wish for you are the things you have given us . . . happiness and love. \"

When we go shopping at a supermarket, we often buy more than we need. But it may not be our fault---supermarkets are controlling the way we shop. In fact, the whole experience of shopping for food is planned for us. Every detail of a supermarket has a purpose. The way the aisles(过道)are organized, the music, the lighting, the product advertising all these things make us stay longer and spend more.
From the moment we enter, a supermarket's floor plan controls the way we experience the store. There is usually only one way in and one way out, so we have to start and shop at particular places. Fruit and vegetables and the bakery areas are usually near the entrance(入 口). Fresh fruit and vegetables and the smell of bread baking can make a store seem fresh and attractive. This puts us in a good mood and makes us hungry, so we take our time and buy more food.
Also, we often have to walk through the whole supermarket to find what we need. For example, common items that most people shop for —like milk and eggs---are usually at the back of the store. Popular items like snacks and canned foods are often in the middle of aisles, so we have to walk through the aisles to get what we want. Supermarkets also put expensive food at eye-level where they are easy to reach. Cheaper items are placed on lower shelves, so we have to bend down to get them. Cash registers are usually at the exit, so we have to walk through the entire store before getting to the payment area. Supermarkets also place candy and other cheap items at the registers as customers might buy a snack while they wait in line. All of these strategies(策略)make us see more food and spend more money.
_____▲________? First, make a list and don't buy anything that isn't on it. If you don't trust yourself to do this, bring only enough cash to buy what you need. Second, don't shop too often. Plan several days of meals and shop for food only once or twice a week. Lastly, don't shop when you're hungry. That's when everything in the store looks delicious. 42. The bakery areas most probably sell ____________. A. Fruit
B. Vegetables
C. Bread
D. Eggs
43. According to the passage, which might be the floor plan of the supermarket?
44. Which of the following sentence can be put in ______▲___________? A. So what can you do to avoid buying more than you need? B. What other strategies are used to make us spend more money? C. When is the best time to go to the supermarket?
D. What kind of people are most likely to spend more money? 45. What's the main idea of this passage?
A. It has become more difficult for supermarkets to attract shoppers in recent years. B. Supermarkets use certain methods to make shoppers spend more money. C. There are some ways supermarket shoppers can avoid spending too much money. D. Supermarkets offer different kinds of items for shoppers to buy these days.
