A Good Man Is Hard to Find

The story was began with the inner mind of the grandmother. At the very beginning, she tried many ways to convince her son, Bailey, that they should go to Tennessee instead of Florida. She failed in this battle, but next day she hid her cat in the car against her son’s will because she didn’t intend for the cat to be left alone in the house.

Then the trip began. She sat back seat with her two grandchildren, John Wesley and June Star. She dressed very neatly, looking like a lady. On the way, she kept talking about everything, the weather, the interesting details of the scenery, her hometown, even the little pickaninny besides the road. But no one actually listened to her. When children’s comic book over, she told them a story about her youth and a Mr. E.A.T.

After the story, they stopped for lunch in The Tower. The owner is a fat man named Red Sam. When Red Sam’s wife served them with dinner, the fat guy had a little conversation with the grandmother about the changed world. He kept saying good men were hard to find and discussed better time with the grandmother. They drove off again into the afternoon. A weird thought occurred to the grandmother that she wanted to see an old plantation. In order to convince

her son, she lied that there was a secret panel in the house and interested the children. Her son was very impatient but had to drove back to look for the plantation for the children’s demanding. But in the half way, the grandmother suddenly was aware that the house was in Tennessee. Out of nervousness, she kicked down her valise and the cat came out to Bailey’s head. So the car accident happened. Luckily, no one got hurt.

The car was broken down, so they had to wait besides the road. In a few minutes they saw a car and it stopped besides them. When the son asked help from the three guys who got out of the car, the grandmother recognized one of the three was Misfit, a criminal and she can’t help it so she screamed out. They all took out gun and Misfit began talking with the grandmother. She was scared but she tried to calm him by saying repeatedly that he was a good man. Misfit talked with her about many things, even the youth of his. But he still asked his men, Hiram and Bobby Lee to take Railey and his son to forest and killed both. Soon after that, they took the wife and the little girl and killed both. In the process, he kept talking to the grandmother and remembered his past life. The grandmother tried hard to convince him to not kill her. Still, in the end, Misfit shot her 3 times to death when she tried to touch him.
